CCA Elective Course

Lead Administrator Greg Batten introduces a course that is one of the ways CCA staff will support traditional academics and the “unwritten curriculum” so important to success in CCA’s program.

One of the unique Central Carolina Academy course offerings is an elective course for all students that both supports the transition to a charter setting and prepares and cultivates a growth mindset across subject areas.

The CCA school vision and mission focuses on preparing learners for college and career success, a model that will be exemplified with high school juniors and seniors earning dual core credits through both CCA and Central Carolina Community College. To that end, all students will be exposed to an elective course that will include skill development in note taking, time management, public speaking, writing across curriculum areas and development of goal-oriented study habits.

Staff and students will also utilize this class to address any ongoing learning gaps. This is a process that will be based on both staff and students tracking each learner’s achievement data and working collaboratively to cultivate an instructional intervention plan for real-time academic growth.

Students also will be exposed to career opportunities beyond CCA graduation and the academic skills associated with those professionals. Students will benefit from community and area businesses during this class time.

In summary, this elective course will help build the foundation for academic success for all students in the upcoming year and beyond.
